ALGORITHMS FOR CALCULATING ELECTRON CONCENTRATION IN THE IONOSPHERE–PLASMASPHERE SYSTEM BASED ON ANALYSIS OF WHISTLER DYNAMIC SPECTRA RECORDED IN KAMCHATKA

Abstract:
At the "Karymshina" observation site of the IKIR FEB RAS in Kamchatka, continuous recording of natural electromagnetic radiation in the range up to 10 kHz is carried out. By analyzing the dynamic spectra of whistlers recorded here, it is possible to calculate the electron concentration in the ionosphere–plasmasphere system, knowing the nose frequency and the limiting dispersion. To calculate these, a method of linear extrapolation of whistler dynamic spectra was applied. A software package implementing the algorithms described above has been developed. The L parameter for the "Karymshina" observation site was refined, and based on it, the nose frequency and limiting dispersion were determined. The obtained estimates of the electron concentration at an altitude of 1000 km correlate with the data calculated using the IRI model.
