Abstract:
The problem of reducing optical losses in solar cells (SCs) due to the reflection of incident sun light is examined. The reduction of the reflected component is achieved by employing porous anti‑reflective coatings applied to the illuminated surface of a typical solar cell. For the first time to our knowledge, we show that an anti‑reflective (AR) coating consisting of vertical air nanovoids (nanopores) embedded in a continuous silicon dioxide layer is in most cases more efficient at converting incident light radiation than a nanostructured layer formed by an ordered microassembly of homogeneous nanospheres. Furthermore, the efficiency of converting solar light into electricity for the same type of AR layer may vary across specific spectral ranges.
