The paper describes the possibilities of direct and remote observation of vortex formations in the water area of Lake Teletskoye. Analysis of satellite images of Lake Teletskoye and images obtained using a quadcopter in the visible range of the spectrum was carried out. It was obtained that vortex formation is stably detected on satellite images in the visible range of the spectrum in winter. Analysis of measurements from satellites in the warm period did not reveal manifestations of vortex formation in the studied area of the lake. It has been established that for reliable identification of vortex formations all the year round, it is necessary to conduct direct measurements of current velocities in the upper layer of the lake.
