This paper analyzes data obtained between 2000 and 2024 using active spectral nephelometry under artificial humidification and heating of aerosols sampled from the atmosphere. Measuring the response of the aerosol scattering coefficient to changes in relative humidity in the range of 30–90% and temperature from 25 to 250°C allows for an indirect assessment of the soluble/volatile content of the particles. A combined analysis of hygro- and thermo-optical parameters makes it possible to identify the influence of substances evaporating at different temperatures on the hygroscopic properties of the particles and determine the temperature range in which the substances responsible for the hygroscopic properties evaporate.
