Abstract:
A new algorithm has been developed for obtaining three-dimensional distributions of the ratio of the standard deviation to the mean wind speed (turbulence intensity) inside and outside a wind turbine wake from pulsed coherent Doppler lidar (PCDL) measurements. Analysis of the results of a field experiment showed that the turbulence intensity inside the wake is, on average, twice as high as outside it. PCDL wind measurements, both during the day and at night, indicate that the turbulence intensity inside a wind turbine wake varies primarily between 0.2 and 0.5.
