Abstract:
This paper presents the results of developing a passive swirling device for the physical modeling of fire whirls. Using a composite screen with tangential slots in the Large Aerosol Chamber, a fire whirl with height fluctuations reaching up to 3 meters was generated. High-speed thermal imaging at 170 Hz enabled the registration of temperature pulsations and the calculation of their power spectra. Characteristic differences between swirling and non-swirling flames were identified: specifically, a steeper decay of the temperature pulsation power spectrum in the 1–10 Hz frequency range for the swirling configuration. The results substantiate the applicability of infrared diagnostics for the detection and remote monitoring of such structures during fire events.
