The paper deals with Monte Carlo simulation of spaceborne lidar echo signals in atmospheric cloud sensing. We study features of numerical algorithms and characteristics of simulated echo signals, taking into account polarization and multiple scattering of radiation. Computational experiments were carried out for laser pulses with linear and circular polarization. The polarization characteristics of the echo signals provide additional information about the clouds being sensed.
