COMPARISON OF HYGROSCOPIC AND THERMODYNAMIC CHARACTERISTICS OF SUBMICRON AEROSOL IN URBAN SMOG AND SMOKE FROM REMOTE FOREST FIRES
Abstract and keywords
Abstract (English):
The characteristics of condensation activity and volatility of submicron atmospheric aerosol were compared for urban winter smog in January and smoke from distant forest fires in June 2024. High condensation abilities of medium-dispersed particles with radii of 0.3÷1 μm were found in urban smog, which are explained by the high content of medium-volatile sulfate compounds in the particles. In smoke from distant forest fires, particles of this medium-dispersed range exhibit low condensation abilities, which are caused by the low proportion of highly volatile and medium-volatile sulfate compounds in the particles, as well as an increased proportion of non-volatile compounds.
