EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES OF A SUPERSONIC JET IN THE LAMINAR-TURBULENT TRANSITION SECTION AND IN THE AREA OF CLOSURE OF INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL MIXING ZONES
Abstract and keywords
Abstract (English):
The paper analyzes the structure of pulsations in the channel of a supersonic jet, and also the spectral composition of intensity fluctuations of the beam shining through the root section of the supersonic jet. It is shown that classical mechanisms of oscillation development at the frequency of the fundamental discrete tone are not always realized. It is shown that turbulence in the root section of a supersonic jet corresponds to a power-law model with an external scale of the order of the transverse size of the inner mixing layer and an index smaller in modulus than that of turbulence in the outer mixing layer. Further, after the closure of the mixing layers, the turbulence of the outer layer becomes indistinguishable from the turbulence inside the jet channel.
