The inverse problem of determining the complex refractive index (CRI) of aerosol particulate matter from measurements of light scattering characteristics is considered. The results of numerical study of the information content of polarization scattering phase functions in mixed smokes during the reconstruction of CRI taking into account the variability in different size ranges are presented. The microphysical model of smoke was chosen in accordance with the results of studies that were previously conducted at IAO SB RAS, and included three size ranges with different values of CRI. The sensitivity functions of the polarization characteristics of smoke to variations in CRI depending on the particle size are determined. Estimates of the error in restoring the refractive index depending on the error of optical measurements are presented.
